Burberry Summer 2009 Eyewear

Pulling further from the Burberry archive comes this collection of sunglasses for Summer 2009. “For men, new modern styles include acetate double bridge wrapped sunglasses with an engraved check plaque across the bridge and temple…The color palette for the eye wear includes degradé neutral earth tones mirroring pieces in the ready-to-wear collections as well as black, brown and bark.” Now that's some good eyewear, I think I will take a trip to the Burberry store my self and try a few pairs on!

Worlds Most Expensive Champagne!!!

As a avid bottle popper I'm always trying to find something new and fly to drink. That being so the price of bottles in the club have not dropped even in this recession. So If your like me and always wondered what the world's most expensive bubbly is, wonder no more. This 1928 Krug is the costliest champagne ever to be sold at an auction. This 75cl bottle comes from the very prestigious Krug Collection. It sold for a whopping $21,200 at an Acker Merrall & Condit's auction in Hong Kong. Champagne expert and the head of the auction house Sotheby's, Serena Sutcliffe claims that the 1928 Krug is 'one of the greatest Champagnes ever made'. I'm inclined to believe her after hearing about its distinguished flavor that has notes of apricot and honey. It has clearly beaten the previous most expensive bubbly which was the Methuselah (6 litre bottle) of Louis Roederer, Cristal Brut 1990, Millennium 2000 that fetched $17,625 in the US in December 2005. I wonder who will be the next record breaker?

Billboard War Anyone? Audi vs BMW!

When two luxury brands decide to take on each other you can expect entertainment for sure. And that is exactly what BMW and Audi have provided to its customers in California. Through a unique marketing war, the two brands are definitely leaving no stones unturned to put the other down. Don’t believe it? Check this out. On the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Beverly Glen Blvd Audi has put up some billboards showing the all new Audi A4 along with the headline: “Your move, BMW”. And what is BMW’s response? Santa Monica BMW had just one thing to say to its rival- Checkmate! A true marketing game played with skill and strategy, wonder who will emerge the victor of this great billboard battle. Until then, we might as well get a few laughs from these entertaining signs. Once again consumer marketing at it best!! Stay tuned coming to a Large to medium market near you! (Sorry to people living small markets, its just not going to happen for you)

It's About Damn Time!!

I have to say after reading this on Bossip, I had to re-post it on my site just because I am happy that there is some progress being made in our community. We all know(Black people that is) how the police go out their way to mess with us. So it's good to hear that some of us have stopped putting ourselves in their cross hairs. Or at least brothers out there have decided to be really low key with their moves.

The number of African-American drug offenders in state prisons has declined for the first time since law enforcement agencies started the war on drugs 25 years ago, even as convictions of white drug offenders have increased, according to a new study released Tuesday.
The study, by the Sentencing Project, a nonprofit policy research group in Washington, found that the number of blacks in state prisons for drug crimes dropped 21.6 percent from 1999 to 2005, the last year for which data are available. The number of white drug offenders in state prisons grew by 42.6 percent in the same period.
The total number of drug offenders in state prisons increased to 253,300 in 2005 from 251,200 in 1999, according to the report.

“I’m encouraged that there are fewer African-Americans in prison for drug offenses,” said Marc Mauer, the executive director of the Sentencing Project and the report’s author. “But the overall number of blacks in prison is still high, and we’ve replaced some of those black drug offenders with white drug offenders. The racial disparity has lessened, but the overall effect of the drug war has not.”

Experts in criminal justice suggested several reasons for the decline in imprisoned black drug offenders, including a reduction in racial profiling, a drop in open-air drug sales and a cooling of the crack cocaine trade that devastated urban communities throughout the 1980s and ’90s.
The study, which was based on an analysis of data from the F.B.I. and other federal agencies, noted a sharp contrast between state and federal prisons, where there was an overall expansion of inmates — black, white and Latino — serving time for drug-related offenses.

Blacks continued to make up the largest segment — 44 percent — of all prisoners serving time for drug offenses, although they were only 12 percent of the total population, while whites, who were 75 percent of the national population, made up 27 percent of all imprisoned drug offenders. The incarceration rate for Latino drug offenders in state prisons was substantially unchanged, 20.2 percent in 2005, down from 20.7 percent in 1999.

Thrasher TV: Cake Batter : Express 1.4 FINANCE Needs More FASHION

The truth of the matter is we all could use more fashion, the only problem is people only follow trends. How is that an issue for some one like ME, who sets trends and influences the other marketers out there? Its only an issue when people blindly follow whatever they see on TV or read on the internet. But its cool Mavens like myself, JP and all the other trendsetters out there will continue to bush the boundaries for the rest of you.

Got Recession?

Sales of women’s apparel fell 6 percent in the U.S. in the first nine months of 2008. But sales of menswear rose 1 percent. Even Tom Ford, who makes $10,000 fur boots and $900 jeans, said sales are brisk. “Women move from brand to brand depending on who has done a particular trend,” Ford explains. “Men go into a store and they will spend more money because they’ll buy for the whole season. They don’t look at shopping as a recreation the way women do.” So men are creatures of need, and $5,000 Tom Ford suits are necessities. I am glad to hear that its us men who are helping the fashion industry move a head even if its at a snails pace!

Retailers are Cashing In on Cheap Recession Real Estate

Prices for retail real estate are down and clothing chains are looking to cash in on the market. There was practically no demand for space in November, December, and January, but things started picking up in February. Topshop continues to scout for a second location in high-traffic areas, possibly 34th Street. Nordstrom is looking to open a store in Manhattan, finally. Real-estate insiders are being hush-hush about which stores are eyeing which spaces, but a number of deals are in the proposal stage, according to WWD. Stores are trying to get the best deals for their money and landlords are trying to squeeze every last dime out of possible tenants.

This does not mean clothing stores will take over all the vacant ground-floor commercial real estate in the city, sadly. Just because there’s more, cheaper real estate doesn’t mean everyone’s not broke anymore. Stores have plans for the year of how many stores they’re going to open, and they’ll probably stick to those plans. Many stores are probably just looking to move to better locations.

So who knows how many of these deals will go through. Because no matter what the market’s like, looking for real estate in Manhattan is always basically the most difficult and loathed activity in the entire world.

I'm glad that I have been blessed to own some property in Manhattan, only because the value almost always goes up no matter what. Knowing that people are starting to spend helps people else where because if companies and investors are spending on real estate in Manhattan and finding deals, there are crazy deals available else where around the country. So if you have the cash on hand to invest this is the best time to because the values have pretty much bottomed out.

Ulysse Nardin Genghis Khan Wristwatch exudes a powerful presence

Watches with a historic epic theme are always fascinating for the watch connoisseurs that have a keen eye for it. Thank god I am one of these people, the Ulysse Nardin Genghis Khan Wristwatch is a watch that aroused my interest the moment I set my eyes on it(Pause). They will now be offered in several distinctive haute joaillerie interpretations which are a quintessence of jewelry and high watch-making fireworks. Among the several models is a white gold model with black baguette diamonds on its bezel, lugs, and a dial flange presents the most contemporary and eye catching impression of the automated Mongol warriors’ spar where the carillon minute repeater is activated. The other model is the white gold Genghis Khan Haute Joaillerie watch that features well over five carats of baguette diamonds and stones set skillfully set into the bezel, lugs, and the concave bezel flange. Diamond and bling are not the only spectacular features of the watch, the other attributes that set the watch apart are the tourbillion, the delightful gold automations, and the minute repeater with Westminster chime.

Maven Moment: That Bullshit!!!

Last night after eating one of the best Easter Sunday dinners that I have ever had in my 26 years on this earth my tooth began to hurt. I really didn't think nothing of it because like all of us it happens sometimes. But nah, this particular tooth was on a mission to shut the rest of my night down. And to tell you all the truth it really did. I broke out with a mean sweat and a vicious headache that had me up all night and damn near in tears( I know not really manly right but fuck it!). Some how I fell asleep around 12am while my woman was downstairs handling some business. I thought after taking some pain meds I would be cool in the morning, morning in my mind meant 8:15ish. But the tooth decided that 4am was a good time for me to get up and suffer. So I was really mad and my head started pounding again and that was that.

Around 9 my woman made me a much needed appointment at the dentist and I got dressed and rushed over there. After 10mins of filling out paper work and hearing little kids crying and grown men cussing, I walk back to the chair to take my few x-rays. After another 10mins the dentist comes out and gives me the good news "You need a Root canal or I can pull it for you"!! I'm like WTF, it was just a toothache and a mean headache and now I need this expensive ass procedure done or this pain is never going away. Damn, stay focused G!! So I sit there and talk to him about the pro's and con's of the procedure and what not. Then the lady at the front desk comes back and shows me how much it cost's for both. Check this shit out, it costs $1,867 for the Root canal and $265 to get the tooth pulled!!! Once again I'm like WTF at the price, damn ain't it a recession out here why the hell does it still cost so much? This office has flat screen tvs in front of every chair, they sure don't need all this money from me right?! Wrong they are working hard to get it from me. SO now as I write this post I'm trying to figure out what to do next. The sad thing about it is that I don't have a choice, I'm going to have to get that damn Root Canal!! I thought being a Maven was about being stylish and fly at all times, no one ever said that your teeth could mess up and destroy your week!! Damn now that's $1,867 that could go to a new suit or a bunch of other stuff. DAMN!!!

Some Truth!!!

So I'm over my lady friends house and I helping her kids color Easter eggs after a morning of family prayer and I start to ask myself "do people think that this day is about a bunny and punk ass eggs?". Those who know already act accordingly and for those who don't lets break it down a little. So here it is a brief understanding of the name Easter in the non religious form.

Easter is named for a Saxon goddess who was known by the names of Oestre or Eastre, and in Germany by the name of Ostara. She is a goddess of the dawn and the spring, and her name derives from words for dawn, the shining light arising from the east. Our words for the "female hormone"estrogen derives from her name.

Ostara was, of course, a fertility goddess. Bringing in the end of winter, with the days brighter and growing longer after the vernal equinox, Ostara had a passion for new life. Her presence was felt in the flowering of plants and the birth of babies, both animal and human. The rabbit (well known for its propensity for rapid reproduction) was her sacred animal.

Understand where everything comes from, I don't celebrate "Easter"! Its Resurrection Sunday to me and those who choose to look beyond what they saw and hear... This is a day to spend with loved ones and to thank Jesus for giving his life for us. For all of you who are not Christians then its a Marketing holiday like Valentines day so spend and help the economy grow. We are still in a RECESSION!!
